I woke today with sunshine beaming forth. A cool breeze passing gently through my hair, That early morning scent of lush green grass, An overwhelming freshness to the day. The pink clouds floating gently through the sky Are echoed by the stillness of the lake. The sunrays clear the dewdrops from the grass, Just like a blanket covering a child. But raging where the wind and rain fell last night, The heavens letting loose their precious hold. The uncontrollable wild, whistling wind, Whipping up towards the cowering fields. The thunderbolts of Zeus came tumbling down Like bombs falling onto enemy soil. The rattling of the rain upon the roof Was like machine-guns firing in the air. Today the sky is peaceful and relaxed, Or so it seems to eyes that do not look. As storms continue onwards through the world, And we are left to dance in our leaders' rain. by Gianni Howard-Hole, 14, Bournemouth, England |
