by Andrea Guinn, 17, DuPont, Washington

rain glazed the heels of my dread
as i staggered into a necklace of lights
and let my past be bled

seattle smiles from across empty nights
licking the purity of promise broken
that swelters as i rise for flight

the bloodied clay of words unspoken
spills like water into water
and its wetness stings as new life
sleeps awoken
